GENERAL CONDITIONS IN SWITZERLAND

When renting an AVIS car the client will be asked to accept or decline any of the optional coverage's or insurances. If the customer initials to accept the coverage's and/or the insurances the client will NOT be reimbursed.

 

CONDITIONS

Local Currency: Swiss Francs (CHF).

 

Local Tax: 8.0%.

 

Driver’s License: It is mandatory for all non-residents in Europe to bear the International Driver’s License which must be presented with the license of the country of origin. The latter must be at least one year old.

The International Driver’s License must be submitted along with the license of the country of origin before the police, the municipal authorities, etc. whenever required. Should the same be not held, it may result in severe fines and penalties that may reach the car seizure.

Drive on the right.

 

Minimum Age: 25 years.
 Groups A, B, C, D, E, F, G, K, L, M, N, O: 21 years.  

Groups H, I, J, P: 25 years.

Group I (Mercedes Benz): 30 years.

(Additional charge to be paid at time of rental for minor driver between 21 and 25 years).

 

Minimum Rental: 3 days.

 Grace period to give the cars back: 29 minutes.

 Debit Cards: IMPORTANT; Are not accepted as deposit. Since credit cards issued in Latinamerica do not allow credits the deposits cannot be reimbursed.

 

Credit Card: An International credit card accepted by AVIS will be required at the time you collect your vehicle; said credit card will be blocked to be used as a guarantee and to cover any extra charge not included in the Voucher, such as, gas, insurance deductible, etc.

For groups H and P, 1 (one) international credit card must be presented with a card hold of CHF 2000.-

For groups I and J, 2 (two) different international credit cards must be presented, one of them must be American Express or Diners Club.  

For Saab cars in groups I and J, 1 (one) international credit card must be presented with a card hold of CHF 2000.-

For Mercedes Benz cars in group J, 2 (two) international credit cards must be presented, both with a card hold of CHF 3000.-

For Mercedes Benz and BMW cars in group I, 2 (two) international credit cards must be presented, both with a card hold of CHF 3000.-

For Mercedes Benz S350 cars in group I, 2 (two) international credit cards must be presented, one with a card hold of CHF 4000.- and the other one with a card hold of CHF 6000.-

MANDATORY CHARGES

Swiss Highways Charge: A CHF 40.- sticker will be mandatory for the use of Swiss highways, this sticker must be fixed on all cars with Swiss plates. Customers with rented cars from other European countries must purchase the sticker to drive on Swiss highways. Failure to display the sticker while using a Swiss highway may result in a CHF 100.- fine. (plus the sticker cost).

 

Airport Surcharge: 18%, minimum CHF 37.- per rental plus tax.

 

Registration Fee: CHF 4.50 per day plus tax.

 

Winter Supplement: CHF 8.50 per day plus tax for all rentals from December to March.

 

Surcharge for minors drivers between 21-25 years: CHF 18.- per day plus tax, up to a maximum of CHF 180.- per rental plus tax.

 

OPTIONAL CHARGES

Pick Up and Drop Off: Out of AVIS locations in the following cities: Ascona, Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, Lugano, Luzern, Zurich in working hours (except Saturday-Sunday). Minimum: CHF 35.- within the city limits, CHF 60.- outside of city limits (until 25km).
Customers must reconfirm the reservation, minimum 1 hour before pick up of the vehicle, and notify where the pick up will take place.

A CHF 30.- A charge will be applied when the delivery is not done during office working hours.
 
 Additional Driver: CHF 9.- per day, per driver, plus tax. up to a maximum of CHF 90.- per rental plus tax.

 

Child Safety Seat: CHF 40.- plus tax per rental.

 

Ski Rack: CHF 40.- plus tax per rental.

Not available in groups N and O.

 

Satellite Navigator (TOM TOM GO 700):  

For 1 and 2 days: CHF 25.- per day plus TAX, additional day CHF 10.- per day plus TAX.

For 22 / 30 days: CHF 25.- per rental plus TAX.

Available at: Basel Airport, Geneva Airport and Downtown and Zurich Airport and Downtown.

One way: Not allowed.

 

Pick Up and Drop Off: Only allowed in the following Cities: Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, Lugano, Luzern.

Monday through Friday within working hours: CHF 40.- plus TAX, within the limits of the City (within a 10-km radius).

CHF 65.- plus TAX, outside city limits (within a 10/25-km radius).

CHF 1.- per additional km plus TAX.

Monday through Sunday during non-working hours: CHF 80.- plus TAX, within the limits of the City (within a 10-km radius).

CHF 130.- plus TAX, outside city limits (within a 10/25-km radius).

CHF 2.- per additional km plus TAX.

Airport Pick Up:

Monday through Saturday after 7 pm: CHF 30.- plus TAX

Sunday - All day: CHF 30.- plus TAX.

 

Fuel Charges: CHF 20.- plus TAX will be charged in addition to the fuel cost per liter if the car is returned with missing fuel. It is optional to purchase fuel service at the beginning of the rental.

ONE WAY RENTALS

One Way / Drop Off charge: CHF 40.- plus tax are charged when the customer changes drop off date or location once the reservation has been confirmed and the customer is already in Switzerland.

 

National One ways: Between Downtown locations and Basel, Bern, Geneva, Glattbrugg, Lausanne, Letzipark and Zurich Airports: Free of charge.

Within the Country, from/to  Mountain Resorts (SAMEDAN/ST.MORITZ, TAESCH/ZERMATT, VERBIER): 

For 1-3 days: CHF 120.- plus TAX. 

For 4 or more days: CHF 30.- per day plus TAX. Between other AVIS locations: CHF 30.- plus TAX, for all groups except for 4X4 and convertible groups.

 

International One ways:

Groups I, J, P and Mercedes Benz: Not allowed.

 

Special Conditions: Cars rented in Switzerland are not permitted to enter: Albania, Armenia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Gibraltar, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Montenegro, Turkey.

 

Cars rented in Switzerland are permitted to enter: Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Czech Republic and Poland.

One ways towards these countries: not allowed.

For groups: A, B, C, D, E, F, K, L for Ford, Nissan, Opel, Renault cars only. 

Deductible: CHF 2000.- this amount cannot be reduced or cancelled.

 

Cars of  groups I or J are not allowed to enter Italy or Southern France (area of Nice, Cannes, Marseille, Montpellier, Nimes, Perpignan, Aix en Provence and Avignon).

 

INSURANCE & COVERAGE

In case of damage or theft of an AVIS vehicle:
If CDW/TP is declined: The amounts of table will be applied (Responsibility).
If CDW/TP is accepted: Only the deductible will be applied.

The following insurances are optional and may be purchased at time of rental.

 

Super CDW: With the purchase of this insurance the client will be exempted of all financial responsibility in case of partial or total damages due to collision. In case of collision, robbery or car theft, an administrative fee to be paid by the customer will apply.

Unlimited Liability: In the event of an accident during the rental period, the Customer agrees to protect the interests of AVIS and its insurance company in the following manner:

 

- duly completing the Accident Report form given by AVIS without omitting any data/detail.

- obtaining names and addresses of parties involved, and of witnesses.

- not admitting liability or guilt.

- not abandoning the Vehicle without adequate provision for safeguarding and securing the same.

- calling the nearest AVIS station by telephone (transfer charge).

- notifying the police immediately if another party's guilt has to be ascertained or if any person is injured.

 

The customer shall be liable for damages awarded to AVIS arising from the breach of the rules set forth in the rental agreement.
